What does the fertility check-up involve?
Your fertility check-up is thorough and covers key areas of your health and lifestyle. It includes:
- Medical history and lifestyle assessment: We take a detailed look at your health history and any lifestyle factors that may be impacting your fertility. This can include diet, exercise, stress levels, and other lifestyle habits.
- Height, weight, and BMI check: We assess your body mass index (BMI) to understand how your weight may be affecting your fertility.
- Urine analysis and health risk assessment: We perform tests to check for risks of diabetes, anaemia, and cardiovascular disease, which may impact your fertility or pregnancy.
- Comprehensive blood analysis: A detailed blood test will evaluate your thyroid function and hormone profiles to ensure you’re ovulating regularly. We also assess liver, kidney, and cholesterol levels to provide a full picture of your health.
- Ultrasound scan: An ultrasound of your ovaries and uterus will be performed to check for any abnormalities that might be affecting your ability to conceive.
For those in need, we can also arrange sperm testing to assess male fertility factors.
Dr Ahmed will guide you through the process, explaining the tests and addressing any questions you may have about fertility. Our goal is to make the journey to understanding your fertility as straightforward and supportive as possible.
Who should consider a fertility check-up?
If you’ve been trying to conceive for over a year without success, or if you have any known health conditions that could affect fertility, a fertility check-up may be beneficial. It can also be useful for individuals or couples looking for reassurance or insights before actively trying for a baby.
What can I expect after the check-up?
Based on the results of your tests, we will work with you to create a personalised plan to enhance your fertility. This might include lifestyle changes, further treatments, or referrals to specialists. Dr Ahmed will guide you through the next steps, ensuring you have the best chance of success.
Maintaining a healthy weight, managing stress, avoiding smoking and excessive alcohol, and eating a balanced diet can all improve fertility. During the check-up, we’ll assess your lifestyle and offer personalized recommendations.
Test results typically come back within a few days to a week. Once all results are available, we will schedule a follow-up consultation to review them and discuss the next steps.
If you’ve been trying to conceive for over 12 months (or 6 months if you’re over 35), it’s a good time to consider a fertility check-up. Earlier evaluation may be recommended if you have a known health condition that affects fertility.
