What is Glandular Fever?

Sometimes called “the kissing disease,” glandular fever (infectious mononucleosis) is caused by the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). It spreads through saliva—not just kissing, but also sharing drinks, utensils, or even coughing and sneezing. It’s most common in young people aged 15 to 24.

Why get tested?

Catching glandular fever early can help you manage symptoms and avoid complications like prolonged fatigue. It also means you can take steps to prevent passing it on to others.

Our Simple Testing Process

We offer the Paul Bunnell Monospot test, a quick and reliable blood test that detects EBV antibodies. Here’s how it works:

  • Simple & quick – A small blood sample, taken by our experienced team
  • Expert guidance – Dr Ahmed will listen to your symptoms and assess your health
  • Fast results – So you can take action sooner
  • Personalised advice – We’ll guide you through symptom relief and recovery

Treatment & recovery for glandular fever

There’s no specific cure for glandular fever, but taking care of yourself makes all the difference:

  • Rest as much as you need – Your body heals best when you slow down
  • Drink plenty of fluids – Staying hydrated supports recovery
  • Ease discomfort – Over-the-counter medication can help with fever and aches

⚠️ A quick note on antibiotics: Amoxicillin and other penicillin-based antibiotics aren’t recommended for glandular fever. They can sometimes cause a severe rash.

If you think you might have glandular fever, we’re here to help. Book your test today and start feeling better, sooner.
