How it works

At a partner clinic (£29)

  1. Choose your tests and pay online. Enter your postcode and we show the three nearest partner clinics.
  2. One quick call books your visit. Ring the booking line on 01858 571322, option 3, quote OME and your booking reference, and pick a clinic and time. Lines open Mon to Fri 9:30am to 7:45pm, Sat 9:30am to 3:30pm (closed Sunday).
  3. Give one small blood sample at the clinic. It takes a few minutes. Nothing to pay on the day.
  4. Results by email, doctor-reviewed, usually within 24 to 48 hours of the sample reaching the lab, Monday to Friday.

At home (£60, England)

  1. Choose your tests and pay online, with your postcode.
  2. You are emailed a booking link, normally within 24 hours, to pick the day and time of your visit. If you have not heard within 24 hours, call 01858 571322, option 3, quoting OME.
  3. A trained phlebotomist visits your home or workplace and takes a venous sample from the arm.
  4. Results by email, exactly as for a clinic visit.
Your results and report are the same whichever route you choose. If a result needs action, the reviewing doctor says so plainly and you can book a private GP appointment, in clinic or by video, from the same account.

A home blood test with a real phlebotomist, not a kit

Searches for “home blood test” mostly return finger-prick kits you post back. They have their place, but they fail often on volume or clotting, cannot run a full blood count, and the result depends on how well you took your own sample. A OneMedicine home visit is different: a trained phlebotomist comes to you, takes a venous sample from the arm, and the tube goes straight to the laboratory the same way a hospital sample would. You get the full range of tests, including full blood count, thyroid, iron studies, hormones and liver and kidney panels, with a doctor’s review on every result.

Questions people ask

How much is a private blood test in the UK?

Single tests start at £40 for a full blood count, £40 for a liver function test, £40 for kidney function, £49 for a cholesterol profile and £55 for thyroid, with a doctor’s review and written report included. Add one blood-draw fee per visit: £29 at a partner clinic, £60 for a home visit in England, or nothing at our Birmingham clinic. Several tests from the same sample earn a multi-test discount at checkout. There are no hidden fees and nothing to pay on the day.

Where can I get a private blood test near me?

At one of 103 partner clinics across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, at your home anywhere in England, or at our own clinic in Kings Heath, Birmingham. Enter your postcode when you book and the three nearest clinics are shown with distances.

How do I get a private blood test in the UK?

You do not need a GP referral. Choose your tests online, pay once, and either call the booking line to pick a partner clinic and time or wait for the home-visit booking link by email. The sample is taken by a trained phlebotomist and the results are emailed to you, reviewed by a doctor.

Is this a finger-prick home test kit?

No. Every OneMedicine blood test is a venous sample, drawn from the arm by a trained phlebotomist, either at a partner clinic or at your home. Finger-prick kits often fail on volume or clotting and cannot run many of the tests people want, such as a full blood count. Nothing is posted back by you: the sample goes straight to our UKAS-accredited laboratory.

Which clinic will I go to?

There are 103 partner clinics across the UK. Enter your postcode at checkout and the three nearest are shown. After you pay, one call to the booking line (01858 571322, option 3, quoting OME) fixes the clinic and the time that suit you.

How quickly can I be seen?

Usually within a few days, depending on the clinic you choose. The booking line is open Monday to Friday 9:30am to 7:45pm and Saturday 9:30am to 3:30pm. Home visits are arranged by email, normally within 24 hours of paying.

Do I need to fast?

Only for some tests, mainly cholesterol and glucose. The booking page tells you when you choose a test, and the confirmation email repeats it. Drink water as normal.

Are private blood tests better than NHS ones?

The laboratory standards are the same: our tests run in a UKAS-accredited laboratory, as NHS samples do. The difference is choice and speed. You decide which tests to have, you do not need a referral or a reason that meets NHS criteria, you are usually seen within days, and the results come to you directly with a doctor’s comment. If your NHS GP has already arranged the test you need, use that.

Can I pay privately for a blood test my GP will not order?

Yes. Any adult can book any test on this page without a referral. If a result is abnormal, the reviewing doctor says so plainly and you can share the report with your GP or book a private GP appointment from the same account.

Does private health insurance cover blood tests?

Sometimes, usually when a consultant has requested the test as part of a claim. We cannot bill an insurer directly, but you receive an itemised receipt for every booking, which you can submit if your policy allows. Check with your insurer before booking.

How much is a private PSA blood test?

A total PSA test is £49 and the complete prostate profile, which adds free PSA and the free-to-total ratio, is £90, plus the blood-draw fee for where you have it taken. Both are available at every partner clinic and on home visits.

Can I have a home visit in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland?

Home visits are England only at present. Partner clinics cover all four nations, including Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Inverness, Cardiff, Wrexham and Belfast.

When and how do I get my results?

By email, usually within 24 to 48 hours of the sample reaching the laboratory, Monday to Friday, for most tests. Every result is reviewed by a doctor and comes with a written report you can share with your GP.

Can I add several tests to one visit?

Yes. The blood is taken once, the draw fee is charged once, and the multi-test discount is applied automatically at checkout.

Is this an NHS service?

No. OneMedicine is a CQC-registered private clinic. You do not need a GP referral, and you can send your results to your NHS GP if you wish.

What if there is no partner clinic near me?

Choose a home visit if you are in England, or book at our own clinic in Kings Heath, Birmingham, where there is no blood-draw fee. The 103 clinics cover 68 towns and cities, so most postcodes have one within a short drive.

Can children have a test?

Please call us before booking for anyone under 18 so we can check the test and the clinic are suitable.
