Common questions our patients ask
Do I need a formal diagnosis to start treatment?
No. If eating is causing distress or affecting health, we can begin support and—if appropriate—arrange a formal diagnostic assessment.
Can you help while I’m on an NHS waiting list?
Yes. We can provide interim medical monitoring, therapy and dietetic input, and coordinate with NHS teams once your appointment arrives.
How many sessions will I need?
It varies. Brief goals may be met in 8–12 sessions; more complex presentations often need longer. We’ll review progress regularly and agree the pace together.
Will I have to stop exercising?
Movement plans are reviewed case-by-case. Where it’s safe, we’ll guide a gradual, structured return; where risks are high, we’ll prioritise medical stability first.
Do you prescribe medication?
Medication isn’t a stand-alone cure for eating disorders, but it can help with co-occurring anxiety, depression or OCD. Our GP can discuss options and monitor safely.
Can my family be involved?
With your consent, yes—particularly for children and teens, where family involvement is often key to recovery. We also offer guidance for partners and carers.
