A simple, safe way to check your circulation.
Your vascular system plays a vital role in your overall health, carrying oxygen-rich blood throughout your body. A vascular ultrasound is a quick, painless, and non-invasive way to check how well your blood is flowing and detect any issues early.

What is a vascular ultrasound scan?
A vascular ultrasound uses gentle sound waves to create real-time images of your blood vessels. This allows doctors to assess circulation and spot potential issues like blood clots, narrowed arteries, or varicose veins—all without any radiation or invasive procedures.
This scan is commonly used to examine:
- Neck (Carotid arteries) – To check for blockages that could increase stroke risk.
- Legs (Deep veins and arteries) – To detect deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or peripheral arterial disease (PAD).
- Abdomen (Aorta and other vessels) – To monitor aneurysms or blockages.
Why might you need a vascular ultrasound?
Good circulation is key to feeling your best. A vascular ultrasound is recommended if you have symptoms or risk factors for conditions that affect blood flow. Early detection means early treatment—and better long-term health.
✔ Blood clots (Deep vein thrombosis – DVT)
✔ Atherosclerosis (Narrowed arteries due to plaque buildup)
✔ Varicose veins
✔ Aortic aneurysms
✔ Peripheral arterial disease (PAD)
If left untreated, these conditions can lead to serious complications like stroke, heart attack, or circulation problems in the limbs. A vascular ultrasound gives you the answers you need to stay ahead of any concerns.
What to expect during your scan
The procedure is gentle, straightforward, and completely painless. Here’s how it works:
✔ Preparation – Most scans require no preparation, but for some (like an abdominal vascular ultrasound), you may need to fast for a few hours.
✔ During the scan – You’ll lie comfortably on an examination table while a technician applies a warm, water-based gel to the area being scanned. A small handheld device (called a transducer) glides over your skin, using sound waves to create real-time images of your blood vessels.
✔ Duration – The scan takes 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the areas being examined.
✔ After the scan – You can return to your normal activities straight away. Your doctor will review the images and discuss the results with you, usually within a few days.
