Accurate, Fast, and Reliable
A stool PCR test (Polymerase Chain Reaction) is a powerful and highly accurate way to detect infections in your digestive system. By identifying the DNA or RNA of bacteria, viruses, or parasites, it delivers fast and detailed results, often within days—much quicker than traditional culture methods. This advanced test is ideal when symptoms like diarrhoea, stomach pain, or bloating don’t have an obvious cause, helping you get the right diagnosis and treatment without delay. If you’re experiencing ongoing digestive issues, a stool PCR test can provide the clarity you need to start feeling better, sooner.

What is a stool PCR test?
A stool PCR test is a modern, highly accurate way to detect infections in your digestive system. Instead of waiting for bacteria to grow in a lab, this test looks directly for the genetic material (DNA or RNA) of bacteria, viruses, and parasites in your stool sample. Because PCR technology is incredibly sensitive, it can pick up infections that other tests might miss—even in the early stages.
If you’re dealing with ongoing digestive issues like diarrhoea, nausea, or stomach cramps, this test can quickly pinpoint the cause so you can get the right treatment sooner.
Why might you need a stool PCR test?
This test is especially useful if you’re experiencing:
- Persistent diarrhoea that won’t go away
- Severe stomach cramps or discomfort
- Nausea or vomiting without a clear reason
- Unexplained weight loss
- Constant bloating or gas
It’s also a great option if you’ve recently travelled abroad or eaten food that may have been contaminated. The test can identify infections caused by pathogens like Salmonella, Norovirus, Giardia, and C. difficile (C. diff), giving you clear answers fast.

What do the results mean?
If the test detects a bacteria, virus, or parasite, your doctor will recommend the best treatment—whether that’s antibiotics, antivirals, or other medications. If no infection is found, they’ll work with you to explore other possible causes of your symptoms.
A stool PCR test takes the guesswork out of diagnosis, helping you get back to feeling your best—quickly and confidently.
